Sixth Form - British Baccalaureate

Baccalaureate at BSV Valencia: preparing students for pre-university

Sixth Form provides students with specialised knowledge and expertise in their subjects of choice.

Pupils become more independent and responsible for their education in order to develop the necessary skills for them to tackle their future career and lifelong learning.

Cambridge International AS and A-Level examinations

In the last stage of their education, students must take the Cambridge International AS and A-Level examinations.

In Year 12 they take the first part of the exams, corresponding to the Advanced Supplementary Level or AS Level in their chosen subjects. In Year 13, they complete these subjects by taking the Advanced Level or A-Level examinations. Students must complete four A-Levels by the end of Year 13.

All subjects are taught in English, except for the foreign language subjects.

The A-Level subject offer at BSV includes:

One of the advantages of this type of studies is that they are much more specialised than other systems and subjects are taught in more depth.

They also offer great versatility for the students when putting together the structure of their Higher Secondary Education studies with the guidance and advice of tutors and teachers. This, as well as intensifying academic preparation, fosters their motivation is these last two years of their school life.

Pruebas de Competencias Específicas (PCE)

Year 12 and Year 13 students take the Spanish Pruebas de Competencias Específicas (PCE) in the Universidad Nacional de Educación a Distancia (UNED).

These exams are carried out by students who have completed a foreign Bachillerato and would like to access a Spanish university.

Language offer and accreditations in Baccalaureate

English Language

We are aware that once our students complete their studies at BSV, they must be able to officially certify their level in English. Our language qualification programme allows students to earn an accredited level (external certification exam) of their English.

French

Students who decide to continue their French studies, in addition to being able to take the A-Level exam, they can also sit the Diplôme d’études en langue française – DELF (level B2) or Diplôme approfondi de langue française – DALF (level C1).

German and Mandarin Chinese

If they are also studying a third foreign language such as German or Chinese, students can sit the Goethe-Zertifikat (level B1/B2) for German or the HSK Hanyu Shuiping Kaoshi (level HSK3/HSK4) for Mandarin Chinese.

Valenciano

Studying Valenciano is optional in Sixth Form. Students who wish to study this regional language can obtain the official certificate issued by the Junta Calificadora de Conocimientos en Valenciano Grado Mitjà.

University admission

We begin to prepare and orientate our students once they reach Year 11, although the formal application is not completed until Year 13.

University admission, either for Spanish or British universities, is based on the results obtained in the A-Level examinations and PCE which students sit at the end of Year 12 and Year 13.

The students will be required to write a personal statement (foreign universities) and may be called for an interview before being made an offer of a place depending on the results of the A-Level exams.

Spanish university admissions

This is based on a common application process for all candidates, regardless of the education systems being studied. University places are allocated depending on the candidates’ applications and the final mark on a scale from 0 to 14. This requires passing at least three A-Levels subjects relating directly to the chosen degree.

UK university admissions

This requires passing at least three A-Levels subjects relating directly to the chosen degree. The marks required for entrance varies from one university to another. The admission is done through the Universities & Colleges Admissions Service (UCAS), which allows students to select up to five university courses.

USA university admissions

Entrance to universities in the United States is also possible through The Common Application process which is a very similar process to the one carried out in the UK.
