Since the beginning, in addition to providing our students with the opportunity of studying in a foreign language from a very young age and in a unique school setting, one of our school's top priorities has been to ensure pupils receive a first rate personal and academic education. For the latter of these, students' commitment and willingness is clearly very important, in fact, essential, particularly in the later stages of their school career.
It is our wish to recognise and reward the efforts, commitment and good academic results that many of our students display. To this end, in 2008-09, the British School of Valencia awarded the first ‘Academic Excellence Awards’ to its students.
Today there are a variety of different award models; however, at the time we wanted to adopt the award model widely used in universities, both private and public, national and international, which publicly recognises the merits of students and at the same time awards a financial prize in the form of a scholarship.
These Excellence Awards are intended to be a recognition of the efforts, continued work and academic results achieved over the course of the school year. This programme, which is now well established in our educational community, is aimed at pupils who are in Year 11 and Year 12.
One part of the prize consists of recognising the merits achieved by the pupil, both internally and externally via our web page and other specialised media. The prize also entails the awarding of a scholarship equivalent to a 50% discount on the annual cost of 'academic training' for the period September to June of the academic year immediately following the awarding of the prize.
The award winners will be notified between the last week of August and the first week of September, once the grades achieved in the official IGCSE or GCE are known.

British School of Valencia will award one excellence award in Year 11 and another in Year 12, to the students who have achieved the best academic results from among those who meet the minimum requirements, In order to be considered for the British School of Valencia academic excellence awards, students must fulfil the requirements and academic results are evaluated as detailed below:
The student must have studied either of the academic years for which the prizes are awarded, Year 11 or Year 12, for the first time.
The student must have achieved passes in all subjects/areas graded, both within the British curriculum and the Spanish curriculum at the end of the academic year, either in Year 11 or Year 12. To verify that positive results have been achieved in all areas of the British curriculum, the results of the official examinations set by the corresponding examination boards will be taken into account (University of Cambridge, EDEXCEL or AQA).
Academic Requirements Year 11
Only students who achieve A*, A or B grades in all examined subjects are eligible to be considered for an academic excellence award. Students must also achieve a minimum of six A or A* grades (IGCSE/Year 11).
If a student takes their end of stage (KS4) examinations early, in order to complete related subjects early in Year 11, the better of the two grades will be taken into account.
The above point also applies if both variants of a subject (standard and advanced) are completed within the same academic year and both are examined.
In the case of Year 11, the student must have obtained the International Certificate of Education awarded by Cambridge University (all our pupils sit this examination) with a Distinction.
The student must have obtained a final grade of 8.5 or above (in the case of Year 11) for their academic record. To calculate this grade, we take into account the IGCSE grades obtained in the British curriculum and the grades obtained in the Spanish curriculum. With regard to the procedure and equivalency tables, we follow the standards set by the National University of Distance Education (UNED), the academic body officially responsible for calculating the academic record grades of students studying in foreign schools in Spain.
Academic Requirements Year 12

| * Four subjects .................................. | 280 |
| * Five subjects ................................... | 310 |
| * Six subjects ..................................... | 340 |

| * Four subjects ................. | 2 or more subjects with A*,A or a. |
| * Five or more subjects ... | 3 or more subjects with A*,A or a. |
