Foundation Stage (2 to 5)
The children in our school enter the foundation stage at 2 years old (Pre-Nursery). Almost all of our new intake is of children of this age. We feel that it is important that the only language used for learning at this stage is English to enable a total integration into the language. It is here that the children will gain their first taste of the language that they will be using throughout the further stages of their education.
This key stage consists of three year groups: Pre-Nursery (2-3years), Nursery (3-4 years) and Reception (4-5 years).
The development of the younger children follows the Curriculum Guidance for the Foundation Stage and the six areas for development for children in this age range are:
We place special emphasis on stimulating these areas of learning in a familiar, secure and happy environment. The atmosphere in which the children learn, in particular the well resourced, decorated classrooms and the professional staff in the school enable rapid integration into school life even for the youngest pupils.
In Pre-Nursery classes the teachers work alongside a full time learning support assistant in each class to assure the children at this age receive the careful attention they require.
The children in this Key Stage have their own playground facilities, with play equipment suitable for their age. Here they are monitored by members of staff at all times during their playtime to ensure their safety. The children in this age range also have their own dining room with a timetable more suitable for their age.
